Use cases · Scripts and cron

One curl line, and your phone knows.

Finish a backup, a long build or a nightly job with a curl to your endpoint. Hook-Title, Hook-Priority and the body become the notification, written by you instead of summarised.

  • Title, message, priority, tags, a link and up to three buttons
  • Five priorities: 1 arrives silently, 5 stays on screen in the browser
  • A malformed field fails with 400 and its name, so broken scripts are loud
  • No SDK: anything that can make an HTTP request works
Notifications from scripts in Hook's inbox

Set it up in a minute. Three steps.

  1. Step 1

    Pick a topic

Use the path to group a job's messages, for example /backups or /cron.

  2. Step 2

    Add one line

Call your endpoint at the end of the job with a title, the message as the body and a priority.

  3. Step 3

    Tune the noise

Send successes at low priority and failures at high, then mute or filter the topic in the web app.

backup.sh
if pg_dump app > /backups/app.sql; then
  curl -s https://gethook.app/workspace/{workspace_key}/backups \
    -H "Hook-Title: Backup finished" -H "Hook-Priority: low" \
    -d "app.sql written ($(du -h /backups/app.sql | cut -f1))"
else
  curl -s https://gethook.app/workspace/{workspace_key}/backups \
    -H "Hook-Title: Backup FAILED" -H "Hook-Priority: urgent" \
    -d "pg_dump exited with $?"

Replace {workspace_key} with the key shown in the app. Fields like title and priority are explained in Publishing messages.

What people ask before they set it up.

How is this different from ntfy or Pushover?

The sending side is similar: one HTTP request with a title and priority. Hook also accepts webhooks from services that can't format a message, keeps the full request, and gives you a web inbox. See the comparisons for details.

Is there a rate limit?

A workspace accepts 60 requests a minute and bodies up to 10 MiB. The free plan includes 10 requests a month; Pro includes 10,000.
